Humanitarian Crisis in Yemen

Humanitarian Crisis in Yemen
September 5, 2018

The humanitarian crisis in Yemen has left 22.2 million in need of assistance, 8.4 million people severely food insecure, and a further 10 million that could fall into this category by the end of the year.

UN humanitarian chief Mark Lowcock told the Security Council on Friday. “We are losing the fight against famine.”

The conflict in Yemen escalated in 2015; today airstrikes are a daily occurrence. Since June 2018, nearly half a million people have been forced to leave their homes. Many do not have access to a regular source of income and have not been paid regularly in two years. Millions of uprooted families mean most adults are without options for work and children are unable to attend school.

Over 150 relief organizations, including eight UN agencies, are working to provide food, shelter, protection and medical care to the millions that have been displaced. Nearly $3 billion is required for this year’s response plan, and 65% has been mobilized. Despite being one of the world’s best-funded humanitarian appeals, the need continues to outpace the resources of those organizations helping.

Off-grid solutions are often a necessity for relief organizations. Areas of conflict can result in a compromised power grid as well as collapsing water and sanitation services. Aldelano Solar Solutions offers portable, industrial solar-powered equipment that requires little to no maintenance.

Yemen is currently at high risk for a cholera epidemic as million are without clean drinking water. Over 1.1 million cases of acute watery diarrhea or cholera have been reported since April 2017. In situations where water is a direct target during the conflict, the Aldelano Solar WaterMakerTM offers a solution. The WaterMaker TM generates clean water from moisture in the air using solar power. The revolutionary device delivers up to 1,000 gallons of water per day.

The war in Yemen is often considered the “forgotten war” amid Western media focus on Syria. The current crisis is the result of air, land and sea blockades imposed by a Saudi Arabia-led coalition. While the goal is to cut off Iranian weapons from entering Yemen is has also cut off food, medicine, and fuel from entering the country.

Millions of children are dying from preventable causes.

The Aldelano Solar ColdBoxTM supports relief organizations with solar cold storage for food, medicine, and blood. The Aldelano Solar PowerPakTM can power a single, home, entire village or medical center through off-grid solar power. Humanitarian organizations need reliable solutions that require little maintenance, reliable support, and practicality. Aldelano Solar Solutions aims to meet needs through clean energy that can be used in even the most remote regions of the world.

There is no fast solution to Yemen’s emergency. However, Aldelano Solar Solutions have the power to aid organizations through reliable mobile, solar equipment.

Our goal is to offer support through solar equipment that pays itself off many times over.
