Women in The African Power Industry

Women in The African Power Industry

The United States Agency of International Development is working to advance roles of women in the African power industry.

The Women in African Power program was launched in 2015 by Power Africa, a USAID organization. The program aims to increase participation of women in the power sector. It is comprised of existing women leaders and emerging leaders within the government sector, private sector, civil society and academia.

Power Africa is working to:

  • Increase women’s participation in energy sector policy development and project planning processes;
  • Increase consideration of gender issues in the design of energy sector policies and projects;
  • Increase women’s participation in the energy sector workforce; and
  • Increase women’s access to the benefits of energy services

Capitalizing on the talents of women will help to give half the population more significant job opportunities and lift communities out of poverty. The Women in African Power program provides information exchange, mentorship, and exposure to business opportunities.

“The women who lead in this sector present business and mentoring opportunities that can help other women reach the highest levels of organizations, and help some of the poorest women in Africa connect to opportunities that generations before them never had.” USAID.gov

600 million people in sub-Saharan Africa are without electricity. Power Africa’s goal is to provide more than 30,000 megawatts of cleaner, more efficient electricity. This project will create new jobs, and the Women in African Power program aims to provide women with these job opportunities.

Off-grid opportunities are part of Power Africa’s plan to achieve their ambitious goal as many Africans live beyond the grid. Aldelano Solar Cold Chain Solutions seeks to answer this call. Our Solar PowerPak/Generator can provide robust, industrial grade solar power to the most remote regions of the world. The Solar PowerPak/Generator can be used for a single building, entire community or even as an entrepreneurial opportunity.

Women entrepreneurs could rent out electricity with a single Solar PowerPak/Generator to businesses, homes or individuals in their community. Any of Aldelano Solar Cold Chain Solutions’ products can be used in an entrepreneurial capacity. African women entrepreneurs could rent cold storage space out with the Solar ColdBox or Solar Chiller/Pre-Cooler. They would even offer clean water and ice with the Solar WaterMaker. These clean energy opportunities come ready for mobile, off-grid use.

Aldelano Solar Cold Chain Solutions is equipping communities and individuals with sustainable resources.
