Half of Yemen’s Population Are At Risk of Famine
October 29, 2018

On September 5th, 2018, we shared news for the United Nations about the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.

Today, the risk of famine is even higher. Nearly 14 million people in Yemen, half of the total population, are facing pre-feminine conditions. At the end of 2017, 130 children per day were dying of extreme hunger and disease. It is difficult to confirm the exact number of people dying from starvation, or starvation related diseases as numbers are rising quickly. The number of sick is difficult to calculate as only half the health facilities are functioning and many Yemenis are too poor to access health care and die at home.

Children and the elderly are especially at risk as they are more likely to succumb to malnutrition, cholera, and other diseases. It is also important to note that the emergency food assistance that many live off of is only enough to survive. Immune systems are collapsing.

Air strikes continued fighting in Hudaydah, and a collapsing economy is exacerbating the crisis. Humanitarian aid is being severely compromised due to delays issuing visas, restrictions on imports of equipment and other cargo.

Aldelano Solar Solutions products offer humanitarian organizations with mobile, off-grid solar equipment for the cold storage of food or medicine, clean water generated from moisture in the air, and solar power for an entire village. If equipment cannot be taken into a country, Aldelano Solar Solutions products can support refugee camps across borders and can be moved where needed.

Mark Lowcock, who is also Emergency Relief Coordinator is calling for urgent action in five areas: cessation of hostilities around all infrastructure, aid operation and commercial importers, protection for the supply of food and essential goods, a larger and faster injection of foreign exchange into the economy, increased funding and support for humanitarian organization, and for all to engage with the UN to end conflict.

Aldelano Solar Solutions products require little to no maintenance and offer robust solar life-saving equipment in even the most areas of the world.
